I am honored to tell you a little bit about my path to gain the insight into life that I have today. I started off my adult life with a career in music, teaching at a small school before I toured with the US bicentennial band, touring all 50 states. This time gave me an understanding of the artistic path, and honed my aesthetic and musical abilities which I use now to help others enrich their lives.
I’ve also been a social worker, helping people work through hard issues. For a while, I worked with terminally ill children as they confronted death. I was humbled by these children, and through them learned to be present, supportive, and to listen.
Life led me to become a lawyer. I continued to learn how to deal with people in crisis. Many of my lessons were learned as an attorney at a domestic violence shelter and as a family lawyer. I also learned how to problem-solve and bring people in conflict together as both a private and court mediator.
I have had the joy and challenge of raising two boys to adulthood, sometimes as a single mom. I’ve experienced health challenges that have healed through yoga, Ayurveda and herbs.Though I have been practicing yoga for a large portion of my life, I received my yoga teaching certificate, Ayurvedic consultant certificate, and massage therapist licensure over the last 10 years. I studied the folk use of herbs and became re-aquainted my deep connection with Nature. Most recently I was ordained by the Center for Sacred Studies as a Minister of Walking Prayer, studying Spirit from different viewpoints, especially indigenous and earth-based traditions. These recent studies have given me the training to take all my life experiences and turn them intensively towards empowering others to solve their problems, heal themselves and their world. I feel compelled to share what I have learned and continue to learn. I take these skills, life experiences and my open heart to help you experience more joy and peace on mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels through yoga, and individual sessions that seek to combine what I’ve learned to empower you to be your best healer. Mary can be found teaching yoga around the community at large. Click on the class & event tab for details.

Learn to be silent. Let your quiet mind listen and absorb” .......Pythagoras, 500BC My favorite yoga practice is a quiet, inward journey, for personal insight, for waking up. Life is so full of busyness... the slower the yoga the better. I love teaching yin and restorative meditative styles of yoga with lots of props, all mindful movements, sound therapy, silent moments, eyes closed to “relax and receive”. I've been practicing yoga since the 80's to help with stress of graduate school. I've been teaching classes and workshops to yoga students and yoga teachers since 2008 with over 4,000 teaching hours and 300 hours of advanced study. I am a dedicated teacher and student of yoga of the subtle energy body, available to all of us regardless of perceived limitations.
I am forever grateful to my amazing teachers who continue to inspire me on my path. I completed Insight Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Sarah Powers, am a Certified Relax & Renew Restorative Yoga Teacher with Judith Lasater. I am currently studying somatic movement with Tias Little and meditation with the Florida Community of Mindfulness under the direction of teacher Fred Eppsteiner. Gratefully offering classes, privates & retreats in SWF and Cape Cod, MA. I can be found offering energy bodywork privates at Fusion Yoga in Estero and Sasha's Yoga studio in Dennis and teaching yoga at at yoga studios, community centers, on line and most recently in 2020 at at FGCU Renaissance Academy. Lisa Pedro, RYT Health, fitness and being active has always been a huge part of my life. In 2006, I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma, Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST). Being active and working out at the local gym helped me to live with this diagnosis, but 2009 the cancer metastasized. By 2011, the gym was not enough anymore. The gym helped my physical body, but not my mind, body and spirit. I went to a yoga class at Joyful Yoga in Bonita Springs and knew I had found “home”. I decided to recieve my 200 hr. yoga teacher certification, that same year, in order to share this knowledge. From that point on my yoga practice, and teaching yoga, has helped me endure two more surgeries, as well as live with the side effects of the daily chemotherapy pill. “Yoga helps me find my inner focus and calm to ride out the cancer journey with grace, peace and joy” I earned my Yoga4Cancer teaching certification this year, and I am honored to be a part of Survive & Thrive Yoga https://www.facebook.com/survivethriveyoga. Yoga is a passion I love to share with others. I hope one day we will meet on our mats. Lisa has relocated back to California her home state, she will always be part of our hummingbird family.
Marcie Gillis, RYT I studied psychology and philosophy at Middle Tennessee State University and have worked in the mental health field for 15 years. I moved to sunny Southwest Florida in 2000. Having long been drawn to hiking and nature, I s soon fell in love with the subtropical wild lands, plants and animals.I started practicing yoga in 2005 and found it life-changing, both physically and mentally. Having been challenged by anxiety for much of my life, yoga brought calming of the mind as well as a healthier body.
I started my own paddleboard practice in 2009, preferring downward dogs on her board to surfing the waves. With husband we started a standup paddleboard company in 2010 to share their passion through eco-tours and yoga. I completed RYT-200 training in Hatha yoga at Joyful Yoga in Bonita Springs in 2012. My teaching style is lighthearted, uplifting, and always fun.
In addition to yoga on the land, I also teach standup paddleboard yoga classes -- sometimes incorporating crystal bowl meditations on beautiful Southwest Florida waters. The mix of nature and yoga has been a wonderful fit for me, I enjoy bringing my blend of beach life and the natural world to my yoga practice. When not teaching yoga, I can be found paddling various waterways, exploring the Everglades or hiking trails with my husband and dogs. Marcie is our forever Hummingbird found floating on the water around Bonita.
